Uffizi and Accademia in one day

The David is at the Accademia, Botticelli at the Uffizi: many want to see them on the same day. Here’s how to fit both visits in, with separate tickets or a tour that includes both.

The Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia Gallery are two different museums, with different tickets. The Uffizi are part of the Uffizi Galleries together with Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens; the Accademia is not, and no Uffizi pass includes it.

We do not talk about Accademia prices and hours here: we have not verified them on an official source, so check them on the museum’s website. We do talk about times, order of visits and what the tours that include both entries cover.

The answer in brief

Yes, you can see both in one day. For the Uffizi, the museum considers 2 hours the minimum visit time. The combined tours on GetYourGuide last from 1 to 7 hours depending on the option and include timed tickets for both galleries.

Is Michelangelo's David in the Uffizi?

No: the David is at the Accademia Gallery. At the Uffizi, Michelangelo’s work is the Doni Tondo.

It is a common confusion, because tours often put the two names together. Listings that promise the David always include a ticket for the Accademia: this is done by the tour with the art historian, the walking tour with Accademia and Uffizi and the three-hour guided tour with both galleries.

At the Uffizi you will find Botticelli, Leonardo, Raphael, Titian and Caravaggio instead. The list of works is in the guide on what to see.

Are the Uffizi or the Accademia better?

It depends on what you want to see: the David at the Accademia, painting from the Middle Ages to the modern age and the Medici’s ancient sculptures at the Uffizi.

There is no absolutely better museum. The Uffizi, the museum writes, have «extraordinary collections of ancient sculptures and paintings», from the Middle Ages to the modern age. If your goal is the David, the Accademia is the right place.

If you have time for only one, look at the list of works in each and choose based on that. If you have a full day, you can do both.

Can you visit the Uffizi and Accademia on the same day?

Yes. Count at least 2 hours for the Uffizi, the minimum time indicated by the museum, plus the Accademia and the walk between the two.

The 2-hour rule comes from the Vasari Corridor regulations, which call it the «minimum time expected for visiting the Gallery». The tours show other paces: the tour of both lasts 3 hours, the one with the art historian from 3.5 to 4 hours, the walking tour from 4 to 7 hours.

If you organise it yourself, book the two entries at times that leave room. The Uffizi close at 18:30, with last entry at 17:30, and are closed on Mondays.

Is it better to visit the Uffizi or the Accademia first?

There is no rule: the tours choose both orders.

  • First the Accademia:: Uffizi and Accademia in a group, then Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Signoria, and finally the Uffizi.
  • First the Accademia also in the walking tour, which starts from Piazza della Santissima Annunziata.
  • First the Uffizi: the three-hour guided tour, starting from via dei Castellani 14.
  • First the Uffizi also with the art historian, who meets you at Leonardo's statue on the piazzale.

On your own, the order is decided by the times you find available.

How do you buy tickets for Uffizi and Accademia?

Separately: the Uffizi on tickets.uffizi.it, at the call centre or at the ticket office; the Accademia from its own channels.

The Uffizi ticket costs €25 on the day and €29 in advance. It is named: bring a document. The PassePartout 5 Days from €40 covers Uffizi, Palazzo Pitti and Boboli, but not the Accademia. For Accademia prices, the reference is its website; the only figure we cite is that of the walking tour, which indicates the Accademia ticket «worth €20».

All Uffizi fares are in the ticket guide.

What to bring for a day with two museums?

A valid document, the correct names in the booking and as little luggage as possible.

Uffizi tickets are named, and the listings ask for the names as on the document. At the Uffizi, backpacks, bags and umbrellas go to the free cloakroom, and you cannot bring food and liquids inside, except those for medical reasons or for infants. The walking tour listing warns that at the Accademia large bags are also deposited.

The full rules are in the rules guide.

Uffizi and Accademia on the first Sunday of the month?

The Uffizi are free, but entry cannot be booked: the tours warn that access is not guaranteed on that day.

Two listings state this, the Uffizi and Accademia in a group and the walking tour. Without booking, the free ticket is collected at the entrance. If your day in Florence falls on a first Sunday, read the article on the free Sunday before booking.
